Emilio,

UUIDs are--unfortunately--a bad idea for PKs. The estimable Mr. Voldengen
did some speed tests on simple searches with UUID and with integers which he
posted on the new [EMAIL PROTECTED] list. Integers are a LOT faster, and it
gets even worse when you run joins with UUIDs for PKs. Unless you're doing
an ENORMOUS transactional system that inserts thousands of records into the
database in a second, I don't see why someone would not use identity fields
in SQL Server or sequences in Oracle. That IS what they're made for.

They search a LOT faster. I don't recommend UUIDs for this. Also, when doing
joins, having UUIDs as FKs will be a bad thing...

Hal, what's the scoop on UUID's? I JUST started using them for my PK's and
would like to hear what you have to say on their usage as I'm not a real db
guru, I only pretend while I'm at work so they give me more privileges!!

Cheers,
Emilio
