That makes sense. I thought there was already some logic in the core files for this, but after reviewing the layout files I guess that's not the case. I will add the logic and that should do it.

It's more likely to be "attributes.suppresslayout", but have a look in your fbx_layouts and you'll see.  If YOU wrote the fbx_layouts, then you'll have to actually DO something with the ATTRIBUTES.suppresslayout variable, eg set fusebox.layoutfile="".
