Like most of you it's been frustrating for me not
to be able to search the Topica archives for answers to my questions. I think
this limitation is preventing a lot of CF/FB newbies like me from progressing as
fast as they would like to.
I was ready to try my first FB3 app when I saw the
post for Nando's Topica Spider and I thought it
would be a great test to see what I've learned so far. After successfully
setting up the spider and downloading the messages from the Fusebox lists I
wanted more flexibility searching the
data.
Since I'm not as proficient in CF as I want to be I
wasn't able to design what I needed in a reasonable amount of time so I tried
some alternatives. I ended up with an Access database that did the trick. Now I
can search and sort the records in the archives with ease. It has really helped
me out a lot so I thought I would make it available to all of you.
If you want some more info I've posted a Word document with
some screen captures and instructions so you can see what it's all about before
committing to a 15 meg download. If you want to
jump right in you can download
the Fusebox Archive Browser zip file here.
The files must be extracted into a directory named "C:\fuseboxarchive" to
function properly.
From what I've heard there will be a new list in
the future that will give us the functionality we want so this wasn't designed
to be a permanent solution to the problem but for now it works
fine.
I hope someone finds this useful as I have learned
a lot from you all and I would like to give something back. Considering my
limited abilities at present this is the best I can do.
