Workaround? I find it very useful to have my application all in one directory tree, even if it is a "multi-app." Elegant or not, i KNOW where the files for it are, and i can deploy them to a production server without much hassle. Maybe i'm too practical to be elegant, but you are welcome to modify the core to your heart's content and spread 'em out wherever you can manage if you find that useful.
