My 2 cents worth. In most cases, I use client
variables. However, for smaller intranet apps, I tend to use session
variables, just because they are generally easier to maintain (if done
properly). However, to get around the locking issue, I'll usually check
for their existence, and copy them to the request scope in some top-level file
(like Application.cfm or app_secure). That way I only have to deal with
one or two cflock statements for the whole app.
