Nev, that calculation only works if the US/EU/UK attendance at such a conference represented half of the attendance. As it is the number are closer to the high nineties. It's true, if the conference were in Oz then a lot more Australians could attend -- but would those numbers make up for the loss of the much larger number of northern hemisphere attendees? I'm guessing not.
Additionally, I'm unclear what you means about only costing Americans "half price". Last I checked flights to Sydney were running about US$1200. The trick to high attendance is to get the lowest rate spread across the greatest number of attendees. Since with a little planning one can fly from most parts of North America to other parts of North America for about US$250, it would be a difficult journey for a larger number of potential attendees to have it in Australia Besides we're already booked this year for Orlando. You do make a good point about the CF-North conference, Nev, and that is that holding the conference in *Canada* is a deal where everyone wins: The price of the conference is tremendously reduced, and the travel costs to people attending from overseas are the approximately the same yet their exchange rates on costs incurred in Canada would be substantially lowered. I often wonder exactly how much benefit we get by having something semi-coincident with teh MACR conference, as opposed to having a booth or mini evening conferences *during* the MACR conference and then having our own 2 day event 6 months later, just like CF-North ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nev" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, June 07, 2002 12:20 AM Subject: RE: fusebox conf If the fusebox conference is in USA, there is no way I could afford to go... (US exchange rate). Canada and CFNORTH was a very good and inexpensive option. Why not have the conference in Sydney Australia. It would only cost Americans half price, Europeans half price and the British only a third, and Lee could go as well! My Australian 2 cents (oops, US 1 cent) worth.
