One of the hardest issues I've had is sending a FusionPro JLT back to an HP Indigo 5000 and have it keep Spot colors. I've talked to Alex about it but I'm still missing something. I'd like to walk through one and see if anybody has any thoughts.
I'm in Quark 7.3 with a simple page. On this page are some cmyk process colors, a photo or two and a PANTONE color such as PANTONE Reflex Blue U. I go up to export to a PDF and check my settings...My PDF Style is "Captured Settings" and under color, I make sure that the Mode is "Composite" and the Setup is "Composite CMYK and Spot". I've actually tried several variations of these and still get no change. I see my cmyk listed there with PANTONE Reflex Blue U...all highlighted and checked. I select "Capture Settings" and then go through FusionPro to export my Quark document. So far so good...in the PDF, I can go to "Tools > Print Production > Output Preview" and turn colors on and off to see if they are correct. I can send the PDF back to the press and the operator will see my Reflex Blue just fine. We've made sure a dozen times that the blue in the press is called PANTONE Reflex Blue U. Now comes the easy part. When I compose the document (selecting "Spot Colors" under the JLT options of course) to a JLT and send it back, the press will call for the Reflex Blue but convert everything to a cmyk process! Alex taught me to go to to FusionPro > Advanced > Colors and I see my cmyk colors there as well as my Reflex Blue. I select the my blue, go to edit, and I see the cmyk percentages making up the blue...I change those all to 0%, select the "Spot Color" box and click okay. Actually, no matter what I do in "Edit Color" it doesn't seem to matter...I still get cmyk process back at the press. I'm using Reflex Blue here as an example...it could be PANTONE 186 U and still go to cmyk. I'm getting desperate but I'm sure I'm just a mouse click away from getting it right. There has got to be something I'm doing when making the PDF...anybody got any ideas? I appreciate anything you've got...
