THANKS! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!! The field that these records are in was indeed the last field in my document and I did come out of Excel. I was not able to open the edit flat file data as you described because I had more than 999 records in the datafile. I did, however, place another column of data at the end of my datafile so this field wasn't the last field and it worked!!!!
