Basically I am exporting a german database form excel as a tad delimenated

Could this be causing my problems???

Sounds like an encoding issue to me. One thing to try to figure out is what encoding the file becomes when exported. I do not have Excel anymore (because I moved to iWork ), but if I recall, there is an export option for MacRoman. This is what you want.

If there is not such option, its probably Unicode. You can either write a script to re-encode the file to MacRoman or use a desktop application like BBedit. The script would need to take advantage of a codepage like this one: http://www.unicode.org/Public/MAPPINGS/VENDORS/APPLE/ROMAN.TXT

FusionPro wants MacRoman on the Mac :)

If your still stuck and you need to get a job out our something, you can replace the characters with entities.
