I'm not sure what you mean by, "a word document that contains formatted text and includes variable fields of information." Do you mean a Microsoft Word document? And how are these "variable fields" expressed in the document? However this is done, I don't see how it's anything that FusionPro could recognize. Or perhaps I'm not understanding what you mean.
If you really have a document with formatted text content that you want to use in FusionPro, I suggest you create a Formatted Text Resource and copy-and-paste the contents from Microsoft Word into the Text Editor for each document.
