OK, it seems that what was happening was in the original layout, the text block was set to have two columns, and the variable stuff was only in the second column. When I first tried to set the variable stuff, it moved back to the position of the first column, and overprinted that one. When I reduced the size of the box, it was still split into two columns. Once I changed it back to a single column, the text wrapped fine. Mike
