I have a question regarding the use of external datafiles and performance. What are your experiences using external datafiles as resources to your templates?
This is the solution we're thinking of using: A business card-template is set up in a web-interface. The template has an external datafile as a resource which contains a large number of records. The user types in an identification-number (key in the external datafile), and by using rules we can search the datafile for the corresponding number and collect the data from different fields of that record (for example name, title, phonenumber etc). The whole idea is to automatically populate the template so that the user won't have to enter all data manually. My question regarding this is if there are limitations in searching external datafiles as described above? Is there a maximum number of records/fields that can be handled without slowing down the search? Is there maybe a better solution for this scenario?
