Question: Is there any way to access the built-in $pagenum value in a rule?
I've seen several posts on the forum asking this question, but I can't find an answer. I tried some tests, but I can't find a way to define the variable $pagenum that doesn't produce an error. I'm making a template for a booklet, with overflow pages, but the client doesn't count the cover as page 1, they start on the first inside left page. So I need to subtract 1 from each page number. I could almost see how to manually calculate the number of pages, and build rules for creating my own variable, but since there are multiple overfloew pages, I have nowhere in the template to call a separate variable. Also, since it's a booklet, the design calls for the page numbers to appear on the outside edges, not the bound center. So left side for odd (inside front cover as page 1), and right side for even, pages. Again, this is only possible if I can access the variable in a rule, and use that to trigger two different text frames. Does anyone have any advice on this, or other ways that I'm not seeing to accomplish some of my objectives?
