Actually, you could make 26 letters and create a single graphic frame.
Then read the first letter for the first and last names and, with a
single rule, bring in the letter.
For example, if my name (Rob Domaschuk) comes up in the database and you
are expecting it to show the R and the D:
The database has a field for the first name (Fname) and one for the last
name (Lname). After creating the 26 images (each saved as a.pdf, b.pdf,
etc.), write this rule:
return '<graphic file = "' + Left(Field("Fname"), 1) + '.pdf"><graphic
file = "' + Left(Field("Lname"), 1) + '.pdf" position="AtInsertion">';
You still have to create the 26 images for the initials, but once you
get in the groove of building them, it shouldn't take too long.
Just a thought.
