I have found that when building a table, if you add the following after your cell markup you can control horizontal alignment:
<para quad="R"> --- or L, C, or J... I had tried <p quad="R">, but could not remove the leading that occurred before every bit of text. Using "para" instead of "p" works like a charm. Have not figured out yet how to vertically align text in a table cell.
