Brian, Sorry for the confusion, but I'm confused.
We have our DB department, using BCC Mail Manager, make a field for us in the data called "Onecode". They have the option to make this data in "Alpha" mode i.e. ADTF characters--or Digital which shows up as Digits 0-9. We take that data field and add it in our layout as a variable. We then apply the FONT to that variable and expect it to work. The older font "PostNet" worked that way. If I type the letter "F" and apply the USPS4CB font I get a "full bar" character as expected--if done in InDesign--but not when it gets into Fusion Pro Desktop, there I get a space. Are you saying that I need to build my barcodes differently with the IMB (aka 4state) bar code? How come I can't just get my data from the database, apply a font to it in a Fusion Pro text box and be done with it?
