Yes, as I stated, I can set passwords on our proofs. However, it looks as if I
didn't take this far enough. I was under an assumption that since I couldn't
place that pdf file into any other layout program without it "beeping" at me
for a password, that FusionPro wouldn't be able to either. I read in (via data
file) this password protected file and processed it through FP and composed an
imposed output file. I checked that final file's security settings, and there
were none. The password that existed in the document to begin with was turned
off.

This kind of answers my own question about being able to use a protected
document, but this new situation now leads me to ask: was the original document
that FusionPro created truly password-protected?

When you compose, in the Composition Settings dialog, the Security tab has
options to set security on your document. I would recommend seeing if this will
achieve the functionality you are looking for.

Subject: [fusionpro] Security and Passwords

Hi,

Is their a way for fusionpro to use its password features to allow it to
use a "protected" pdf file?

We have one customer that is notorious for their agents creating pdf
proofs online and then simply downloading them from the proof screen and
taking that pdf file to their local print-center to get it printed (i.e.
Staples, CopyMax, Kinkos, etc..) We would like to put a password on these
pdf creations from FusionPro, but then also to use that same pdf after
approved for internal printing.

We generally use two templates per job: one to create a pdf proof that the
customer sees, then one that takes that same approved pdf file and does a
final imposition for our indigo presses. We want to use the exact pdf that
the customer sees and not re-create another after the approval. We have
been burned a couple of times from a past system glitch that caused
FusionPro to not fully re-create some final pdf files in exactly the same
manner as the customer approved. We determined to remove any posibility of
this happening again by only using that same proof "as the customer sees
it".

Since WE know the password that WE set (a feature in FusionPro that I can
currently use), is their any way to program FusionPro with our password in
its logic to allow us to further process and print our own protected
files?

Thanks,
