By reducing famine, we did at least two other important things:

#1 In order to reduce famine, we depleted nonrenewable resources.

        Would you be optimistic driving back and forth to the grocery store
        on your last tank of gas?  Your answer is yes if you live for the
        moment, but some of us worry about what will happen when
        the tank is empty (see # 2 below).

#2  By reducing deaths, we guranteed that even more people will die of
starvation in the future.
