This reminds me of a conversation I once had with a senior official of an
outfitting firm that brought well-healed hunters to the Canadian Rockies to
shoot increasingly scarce game. I asked him if it didn't bother him that
what he was doing was driving game populations down to oblivion. His
response: If we don't clean them out, someone else will. We might as well
make some money on them.
It's not quite the same point, but close.
