- About human desires being limitless - I can't see anything
wrong with that. It is a rational assumption - through science
we are getting better and better approximations to the
physical/chemical/cosmic etc laws of the universe, and we
are producing the technology that makes life easier.

 If social structure reflects eventually this advancement;
all the environmental and exploitative and every other
aspect that violates the right of some people somewhere is
considered collectively, the sky is indeed the limit.

 - About selfishness. Humans are the first living creatures -
at least on this planet to realise their own selfishness.
In all other aspect the history of humans is the history
of more and more social control over the selfish
drives such as sex and tribal pride etc. There is a dynamic
change all the time. The norms of the cavemen are not the
same as the latin slave-owner etc. Obviously there is
a long way to go, and the sytem such as capitalism
is capitalising on the old and non-cooperative
remainders of old norms. Socialism would utilise the
thirst for something better, that the new and old religions,
sects and ufo-dreams etc are ultimately capable doing only
temporarily.
