This is an important point that puts the horse back in front of the cart. If
labour is no longer strong enough (or smart enough) to win further
reductions in work time, this may have become an unacknowledged barrier to
further increases in productivity. I strongly believe this is what has been
happening for the past 25 years in North America. I urge people to think
through the implications of Ed's comment and share their thoughts with the list.
