People become so dominant species because they are very good at observing, realising patterns, planning and acting on reality. The tendency is to do it in a more and more integrated (cooperative) way. As soon as social organisation and aims become part of this conscious pattern, there is a chance of seeing the future as reality, and then no comforters/substitutes will be necessary.
