I agree with both of you. However, artists in western democracies have a
much wider range of choice than artists under the soviet system. If they
want to prostitute themselves, they can. If they want to starve in a
garret, they can. If they want to be misuderstood, they can be. No one
will shoot them or send them to the gulag. That to me is a very important
difference.
