Well, I've certainly read and heard a lot about the problems of the GDP, but
I'm not up to data on alternatives.   I used a search engine and found quite
a few pages about GPI but no hard data.

Well, yes, Caspar, I could use a bit of help.  I downloaded the GIF file from
Jay's dieoff site showing the GPI, figuring I could in a pinch turn that graph
back into numbers, but I'd much rather have the numbers as numbers, and
the formulae they used to get the numbers would be nice too, if possible.
