Turkish musician to hold fundraising concert for earthquake relief
HARTFORD, CT-Turkish doublebass player Volkan Orhon will perform a special
recital to raise money for the earthquake relief effort in Turkey on
Monday, September 13 at 8 p.m. at Immanuel Congregational Church in
Hartford. (Please have your donation checks made to "Turkish Earthquake
Relief Fund". To the amount you choose, will be collected in the Church)
The Immanuel Congregational Church is located at 10 Woodland Street on the
corner of Woodland and Farmington Avenue in Hartford. For more information
on the concert, or for businesses interested in placing an advertisement
in the program book, call (860) 231-0056.
Volkan Orhon, a member of the Turkish Presidential Symphony before coming
to Hartford in 1991, currently is a member of the Hartford Symphony and
Connecticut Opera orchestras, and an avid freelance musician throughout
New England. This past June, Orhon placed first at the International
Society of Bassists Solo Competition. In addition, he was the first bass
player ever to win the grand prize overall at the American String
Teachers' Association Solo Competition in 1994. Orhon has appeared solo
with numerous orchestras including the El Paso Symphony, New Britain
Symphony, Rochester Youth Philharmonic and Connecticut Valley Chamber
Orchestra, and will appear with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and
Connecticut Virtuosi orchestras this coming season. Orhon is a faculty
member at the University of Connecticut, Central Connecticut State
University and The Hartt School Community Division of the University of
Hartford.
