A notice for those who don't know, and a reminder for those who do.

There is a "Technology and Society" resource page at
   http://www.island.net/~dpwilson/resource.html
which is aimed at people interested in social technology and
and the social impact of technology. New links are invited.

Social technology is the technological counterpart to the social
sciences, but is not simply an application of them, and must
often lead or drive the sciences.

Most of law, politics, and government are "know how", the result
of collecting things that work, (or once worked), and are thus
technology -- social technology. Very old and unreliable, but
clearly social technology.

Treating it as technology is a rather liberating step, building
confidence in our ability to change these things, because we
are now very good at technology, with well known disciplines
like systems engineering to draw on.

A basic introduction to the idea of social technology is at
http://www.island.net/~dpwilson/soctech.html
and there is a mailing list for the discussion of social technology,
at http://www.island.net/~dpwilson/stml.html hosted by Topica.com.

A web site for social technology is at http://SocialTechnology.Org
which stresses a specific approach or solution to social problem.
