Beethoven's 9th (Ode to Joy) used to sell milk; Dylan's "The Times they
are a'changin" used to sell banks; Cocker's 'With a Little Help From My
Friends' used to sell Gateway computers etc. etc. ...
An idea from Theodore Rozak's 'The Making of the Counter Culture', 1969
Doubledeay, has stuck with me. The system is capable of using everything
for its purposes - a reverse alchemy.
Having spent 30 years working as a teacher with kids( ranging in age from 4
to 25) and raising 2 of my own, I have some thoughts about this current fw
thread. Of late I find myself having little interest in people who talk
about problems(viewing from above on high hard ground). I'm much more
informed by people who make a difference with a kid (living in the swamp).
An example of this kind of 'swamp life' would be Helen Prejean who wrote
about her work in 'Dead Man Walking'. It became a 'hit' movie.
Exploring what she did, why she did it, and the consequences of her
exemplary practice might shed light on our ailing and thus our kids.
