Ed,

I fear you did. It’s a word I don’t use either.

But, sometimes such a word says it better than more polite language. A joke I’ve forgotten needed a good expletive to generate a roar of laughter. It really was a good one and I’m sorry I have forgotten it.

I tried it with more polite language and it never worked. So  .  .  .  .  !

More important perhaps was Ray’s reaction to my:

“let the people enjoy their crap. They are doing no harm let the people enjoy their crap. They are doing no harm.”

Showing perhaps the urge to interfere with the harmless pursuits of free people.

Coercive actions against ordinary people are almost always justified by their “ignorance” of what is right.

Harry

Harry, did I really say that or was it someone else.  Being a very moral person, I never use words like "crap".

Ed,

Now, now!

If they exchange their money for what they think is a better something to have – they are better off. What they have is more valuable than their money. Otherwise they wouldn’t have made the exchange.

The fact that you think it is crap isn’t important to them – nor to the general scheme of things. It doesn’t really have much bearing on inequitability. However, it does keep people employed which is supposed to be a good thing.

If you and others keep complaining about our scare resources, maybe in 20 years, or a 100 years, or a thousand years, scarcity of some things will be bothersome.

But, probably not if the free market is allowed to run things.

On the other hand, as the political/economic complex hasn’t a clue about running the economy - even as it tries to run it - who knows what kind of mess they will get us into?

In the meantime, let the people enjoy their crap. They are doing no harm.

Harry

I don't think we've solved the production problem.  One reason for our inequitable distribution of income is that we use our scarce resources to produce a lot of crap.  A lot of people make a lot of money producing crap.  Others keep them rich and themselves poor by buying it.
