Saw a newsclip last night - something about
Cheney running for President when Bush's time is up. Could that really
happen? Ed Yes, he could.
After 8 years as Vice President, both Bush1 and Al Gore ran for POTUS. Cheney has
more than cardiac issues that handicap him, however, despite the rumblings in
his honor now. I would love
to see him promoted as a successor to Bush 2. As addicted to personality
politics and glibness that Americans seem to be with our politicians, Cheney
would scare plenty of independents and any wavering young voters straight into
the Blue columns in 2006 and 2008.
If we don’t have martial law and complete vote rigging before 2007, it’s
possible that the GOP will correct course and moderate enough to avoid the
pendulum swinging sharply away due to failed foreign and fiscal policy According to a
recent National Journal poll, the top 5 GOP contenders by ‘political insiders’
were 229 pts - Senator George Allen (R-VA) This list does not include Senators Brownback and Santorum, who are
both much more culturally conservative than Dr. Frist the reluctant warrior. Allen is a former football player. He recently complained that the fuss
over the Bolton nomination was namby pamby because we “don’t want a UN
Ambassador to be all happy, sipping tea with pinkies extended”. He’s not as smart as Jack Kemp was, also
a former quarterback. I wouldn’t put much stock in Giuliani’s chances on a national stage,
although he might be attractive to conservatives as a VP, certainly Cabinet
choice. Romney is a long shot but not unheard of (think Carter) only not as
intelligent. From this list you can see why the power players, not the ‘insiders’
may fuel gossip and anticipation that Cheney might run, to save the Project for
a New American Century platform of imperialism. - KwC |
