As usual, Keith ignores the crucial differences between today and the past.
Usually, it's the stone-age fairy tale, this time it's Medieval City-States.
The infernal combustion engine (especially the particularly dirty varieties
used in China, without catalysator and fine-dust filters) creates such a
toxic environment in these cities that creativity is stifled rather than
promoted. Also, as Keith concedes, the Internet enables creative minds
to cooperate without physically meeting in cities -- they are better off
(and can afford) living and working out in the green.
