Investor Buffet to buy PacifiCorp from Scottish Power for $5.1 B, wants to buy more energy

MidAmerican expects to complete the purchase in 2006 upon approval by U.S. state and federal regulators, including the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission, which enforces the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935. Some members of Congress are proposing the repeal of the act, which puts limits on utility mergers.

MORE POWER  PacifiCorp, based in Portland, Oregon, operates in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.  "There is more and more demand for electricity in the six states where it operates," Buffett said at a news conference.
