Arthur,

You really must get your conspiracies straight! Perhaps
alphabetize them, or something.

However, here is something from the Public Integrity website
at:

http://www.publicintegrity.org/oi/

WASHINGTON, September 24, 2004 - State legislators directly
influence the lives of all Americans. The 7,400 lawmakers
in state capitals across the country passed more than
42,000 laws in 2003 alone and spent more than $1
trillion in taxpayer money in fiscal 2002.
-----------------------------------------------------

Maybe I'll stop quoting the 75,000 pages of the Federal
Register and use the annual 42,000 State laws instead.

I bet a large percentage of that 42,000 were actually
privileges. We are lucky that Classical Political Economy
has terms for these things.

And how nostalgic - indeed old-fashioned - is the remark of
Will Rogers: "Thank God we don't get as much government as
we pay for."

Harry
