Something I've been mulling over for some time (i.e. for a dystopian
"future" speculative fiction story), in the light of essentially
unstoppable(?) terrorist attacks upon highly mobile and permeable
societies, is how long it will take Europe to expel all black and brown
people from its territories? How can one trust anyone from the "other
side"? How do you tell a "good muslim" from a "bad" one? Colour seems an
easy way to do it.
Globalisation brings about the Nazi dream... what an interesting out
turn for corporate capitalism.
Could this happen? I've an awful feeling that there wouldn't be much to
stop it unless "we" do something double plus serious about poverty and
capitalist domination of non-European areas so that people don't feel
motivated to "do" us.
And if climate change in Africa and near Asia is as rough as it could be
in some scenarios, don't be surprised if the dark hued persons start
walking "our" way. And then what? Generational trench warfare in the
Balkans and on the beachs of the Med and Atlantic coasts?
Somehow I don't like the world my children and grandchildren might/are
going to inherit.
Perhaps we should be discussing the undiscussable. How could such a
scenario be averted? And how would the multiracial USA respond? It
doesn't have such intimate contact with the Islamic world (assuming that
it is from this quarter that the war against Europe is going to be
resumed after a historic epoch of respite). Would this make any
difference - or would it just fragment into ethnic fortress domains.
Hmmm. Must find something cheerful to think about before I get little
'un from Preschool in a few minutes...
