Hi Keith,

Today's New York Times reported that British investigators now believe that the
10 lb (previously believed to be crude 4.5 lb) bombs were actually "military
quality" high-grade explosives, as those made for highly technical commercial
purposes such as demolitions or mining. The London blasts devises used were
sophisticated, technically advanced, and used by a skilled person.

IMO, if British authorities delay the clean-up, perhaps, unlike the immediate
removal of evidence, steel and body parts at Ground Zero in New York, they will
manage to piece together some truth as to who was responsible. My first thought
was that US concerns staged this, (as of course I'm certain they staged 9/11),
likely hiring some fall guys, to get the British people fearful of pulling out
of Iraq. After all Britain is the US's only strong ally. Yet if it were the
doing of the same group who I believe organized 9/11, the whole thing may have
a rather different effect--if it holds true that Blair will be pressured by the
financial community to withdraw troops from Iraq. I can't really credit US
concerns with intelligence enough to think anything through, given their
disastrous track record since 9/11. If the bombings prove to be the sole
workings of an Al Qaeda or other terrorist cell, and withdrawal of British
troops from Iraq commence, then perhaps, as with the Baltic To!
wer incident, there will be a period of peace again in Britain. Also
interesting is that if that is achieved, terrorists will have accomplished that
with very few casualties--considering the losses that Iraq has taken over a war
they did not start. By this last, I mean no disrespect to those who perished or
were injured or terrified, and I'm sorry for what the City of London has
suffered.

Natalia

Subject: [Futurework] Latest news on London bombings

| Immediately after writing my previous posting news came through on the BBC
| of a breakthrough in the investigation of the London bombings and some
| FWers might appreciate it if I describe it briefly. Three young people from
| Leeds travelled down to London on the morning train last Thursday and
| another joined them at Luton. Police say that they have found the name and
| address of one of them in the wreckage of one of the explosions and also
| that they have been identified on CCTV at King's Cross terminus at London.
| It is also reported that one of the young men's family reported him missing
| at 10 o'clock on the Thursday of the attack. I'm not sure at the moment
| whether this was in the morning or the evening, but in either event I would
| guess that this was really the first clue that led to all the rest.
|
| This doesn't alter anything in my previous message. The fact that all the
| train explosions occurred simultaneously suggests that they had timers and
| this, in turn, suggests a network of recruiters behind the suiciders. That
| these were home-grown suiciders makes it even more ominous that there might
| be more to follow now unless Blair changes his policy. A recent poll
| suggested that Osama bin Laden is the hero to a significant proportion of
| them. Of course, the proportion of highly impressionable young people who
| feel badly enough to become suiciders must be very small but there are now
| 1.6 million Moslems altogether in England so there might be further
| bombings to come.
