Great article, Karen.  By contrast, the FreeTrade fanatics want to tell us
to import food from other continents where people are starving already now.
Meanwhile, something as useless and land-consuming as golf courses are
popping up everywhere in Europe, taking away the last few pieces of
fertile land and poisoning it with pesticides and benzole for the short
English lawn.  It is getting difficult to "Eat Local"...

One thing you may like to note re: pesticides on golf courses, is that there has been a considerable amount of work done on the soil denizens by one pioneer in Oregon - Dr. Elaine Ingham of Soil Foodweb, Inc. ( http://soilfoodweb.com/ ). People are attempting to reach the owner/operators of these golf (non-productive lands) courses to greatly lower the inputs of both fertilizers and pesticides. This new "soil science" works and should be able to rejuvenate the dead soils that now underlie these sites of questionable activities.

Unfortunately, every concerned Multi-national involved in the petroleum/pesticide/fertilizer industry has been attempting to demonize her and her nearly 20 years of research.

It can be used in every aspect of revitalizing dead soils for better food production and has also been proven effective in countering many above ground diseases of all plants. There may also be other applications.

This is just one small step in a very long march.
