So to speak. Netscapes IPO and it all took off.

I'm proud to say that the handful of us at OxCIN (Oxford Community Internet) and TOXIC (The Oxford Internet Cooperative) project got this largely "right" back in '92, and not that much has come to pass that we didn't foresee in some form or another: search engines, peer networking, commerce, diaries.

If we'd not been politically blocked by an unholy alliance of the then Tory Gov. and local corrupt Labourist politicoes we'd have had the first "internet cafe" by some years and would have had a "steeplenet" of wireless links across the county by '95 or '96. No commercial funds were availabe at that early date and we'd all given up and gone elsewhere by '94. I doubt I'd still be talking to the likes of you shower if we'd stuck with it, eh? But active creative people don't like hanging around 3 years or so for things to develop enough to make projects liftable. More's the pity.
