Well, not exactly a suitable topic for kidding.

Perhaps the US only appears 12th because its crime hot-spots are
so dangerous that not even the police dares to enter, i.e. the
literally countless crimes that happen there are not being counted.

Inside the guarded communities, yes.  High inequality also in security.
