Subject: Liberals Lead by Eight Points - Martin as Best PM Slides (CPAC-SES Tracking Completed December 17-19)

“Although the Liberals lead by eight points, Paul Martin's best Prime Minister numbers have slid in the past week.  On December 14th, prior to the Leaders' Debate, 32% of Canadians chose Paul Martin as the leader who would make the best PM.  Also of note is that yesterday Jack Layton did well on his performance index score.  As of December 19th Martin's best PM numbers have dropped to 26%.  CPAC-SES tracking has the Liberals at 37%, the Conservatives at 29%, the NDP at 16%, the BQ at 13% and the Green Party at 5% nationally.” - Nik Nanos, President, SES Research.

Polling December 17 to December 19, 2005 (Random Telephone Survey of 1,200 Canadians, MoE ± 2.9%, 19 times out of 20). Percentages may not add up to 100 due to rounding. Our tracking polls allow for a daily barometer on the activities of the respective campaigns. Longitudinal tracking charts on all measures can be found at the SES website at www.sesresearch.com.
