That issue - long chains of vulnerability to local economies - was just what I was doing my thesis on before I came down ill way back in the mid 90s. Had to chop it off into a masters :-( when I couldn't carry on.
I reckon the work would be even more timely now. Someone should pick the topic up - or have they? I'm totally out of the loop now with being housedad to a 8 and 3 year old.
