I see it differently: The hand was *visible* in the USSR: esp., Josef
Stalin. When
a Russian asked "Who is doing this to us?", the answer was not "Nobody --
it's necessary impersonal market forces that nobody can do anything
about" --
the answer was: "The Party dictated that it be this way."
