Bravo !!

A time when the production problem has been solved. A world of "free goods."
You will note I used the word "asymptotically" -- we probably won't reach zero necessary labor --
at least not in the time of bird flu, etc.

And, of course, Aristotle famously said that if machines could move themselves,
we would not need wage slaves.

Some say that we are there now, we do have a distribution problem, however.

The irony, for me, is that the capitalists solved the production problem but
don't have a theory for distribution; the communists had a theoretical solution
for the distribution problem but couldn't deal with production !!

I think a "perfect world" would be one without economy, i.e., a world
in which necessary labor (a marxian phrase) was reduced asymptotically
toward zero and all persons spent their time in more fully
human endeavors of play and creation -- a bit like the citizens of the
classical Greek polis.

I believe economists should be busy helping us to get to that better
place, and, once we get there, they could help keep us from
back-sliding. Economic thinking should eliminate
economic living.

I think one has to get real about both the USSR and China. Marxism played a
large role in the revolution that occurred in each. But once the
revolutions were over and the dust had cleared, the economy of both could
best be described as state capitalism.
And state capitalism wasn't the idea of economists either, right.
