Not quite LETS, or Freecycle, but an interesting development in the
"fiat" or "debt made" money area using telematics. As it is on slashdot,
a rather IT tekky site, people might not have spotted it.

Just wondering what the idea might spin out for alternative exchange
systems - or would it only work with ordinary "money" transactions...?

Dotnaught writes "Two companies, Prosper and Zopa, appear to be
convinced that social networking can be combined with borrowing and
lending. They're intent on using eBay as a model for listing and bidding
on loans without the involvement of a bank. Call it peer-to-peer
finance. There are already some 800 groups on Prosper ready to loan
money to specific causes, such as the Apple User Group, 'a lending group
for those wishing to purchase either a Macintosh or Apple iPod.'"

"When the multitude detests a man, inquiry is necessary; when the
multitude likes a man, inquiry is equally necessary."
Confucius, Analects (circa 6th century BC)

Or more pertinently:
"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
Benjamin Franklin
