…a circumspect and chagrined George W actually acknowledging the folly of some of his brash and reckless behaviour…

 

It didn’t appear to me that Bush was circumspect that his policy of and means to war was wrong, he only seemed to be sorry that his tactics had backfired, fueling the insurgents and killing more innocents as a consequence. 

 

It was, however, a remarkable event for this man to express any hint of error on the job. Bush’s inclination to believe that he was destined by God to be in the White House and that this war was ‘inevitable’ and ‘unavoidable’ has generated a sense of infallibility that is dangerous and contagious in groups especially when there is a sense of threat.

 

As long as the ‘politics of fear’ is allowed to continue, we will slide further down that slippery slope.  Politicians are losing their careers, soldiers and innocent civilians have lost their lives in a whirlwind of lies and deceit.
