Karen, no apology needed. You do us all a wonderful service with Casey Reports.  I agree that focusing on her double-amputation was not best the best strategy, as hindsight demonstrates.

We here in Maryland are still basking in the across-the-board repudiation of the Bush administration. But there is much work to be done in undoing the enormous damage imposed on this country and other places in the world by Bush, the fundies and the neocons.  The US carnage in Iraq has now surpassed  650,000 people, not including the deaths caused by the US embargo in the post-1991 war period. And we have the on-going massacre of the Palestinians in Gaza.  And Afghanistan will only get worse. And the illegal jailing and continued torture of thousands of US prisoners in Guantanamo, Iraq, and numerous ‘secret’ facilities in other countries. And the general world-wide contempt for US leadership. And etc.

And we have domestic issues, including the enormous and  growing disparity among income levels in the US, the growing failure of the US educational system to remain competitive globally, the materialism and commercialism and hype of US (and Western) culture, the lowered standards of honest and truthfulness, the advent of Big Brother, etc.

The future of the US is in a real mess, and the prospect of work and jobs for the general population only darkening.

So pleasure with the election results is in order, but we all now have to roll up our sleeves and get to work if the American promise is to be salvaged.

Cheers,

Lawry

Subject: [Futurework] US Elections, apology

I want to apologize for the inadvertent callousness of my final remark about candidate Tammy Duckworth in last night’s post. I obviously need rehabilitation after consuming too much political data and analysis over the last couple of months.

Ms. Duckworth was one of the Fighting DEMS candidates. Most ads and commentary featured that she is a paraplegic. This strategy made her a weak candidate, so that she may feel she was twice injured.

My cynicism was unnecessary.

Karen
