For those of you who may be facing or know someone facing cancer,
thyroid, or other serious diseases this may be interesting and useful. I
can't remember if I had sent in another article about our declining
exposure to Vit D, and the possible deleterious effects, so I'm
including this forerunner excerpt as well. The following was made
possible through a friend, a retired nurse who grew increasingly
disenchanted with the cancer treatment ward where she worked, and began
to investigate alternative therapies and treatments. She recently
attended a Vit D convention, and shared with us the following:
Natalia
MONDAY, Feb. 12 (HealthDay News) -- Certain amounts of vitamin D may be
able to prevent up to half of breast cancer cases and two-thirds of
colorectal cancer cases in the United States, according to two studies
by researchers at the Moores Cancer Center at the University of
California, San Diego, and colleagues at other centers.
<>In one study, the researchers reviewed two previous studies of 1,760
women and found that those with the highest blood levels of
25-hydroxyvitamin D, or 25(OH)D, had the lowest risk of breast cancer. <>
"The data were very clear, showing that individuals in the group with
the lowest blood levels (less than 13 nanograms of
25(OH)D per milliliter) had the highest rates of breast cancer, and the
breast cancer rates dropped as the blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D
increased," study co-author Cedric Garland said in a prepared statement.
"The serum level associated with a 50 percent reduction in risk could be
maintained by taking 2,000 international units of vitamin D3 daily,
plus, when the weather permits, spending
10 to 15 minutes a day in the sun," Garland said.
<>The study appears online in the current issue of the Journal of
Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. <>
In the second study, researchers reviewed data from 1,448 people who
took part in five previous colorectal cancer studies. <>
"Through this meta-analysis, we found that raising the serum level of
25-hydroxyvitamin D to 34 ng/ml would reduce the incidence rates of
colorectal cancer by half," study co-author Edward G. Gorham said in a
prepared statement.
"We project a two-thirds reduction in incidence with serum levels of
46ng/ml, which corresponds to a daily intake of
2,000 IU of vitamin D3. This would be best achieved with a combination
of diet, supplements and 10 to 15 minutes per day in the sun," Gorham said.
The study was published online Feb. 6 in the American Journal of
Preventive Medicine. <>

Vitamin D 3 if you do your research -- www.vitamindcouncil.com It
probably applies to uterine and ovarian cancer as well. It is suggested
men also need iodine for prostate cancer prevention. The Vitamin D3
prevents 50 % of colo-rectal cancer and breast cancer as stated in
recent studies announced in the news. It has been suggested iodine
deficiency is a factor in thyroid cancer.

Background
The rationale for using iodine to treat breast disease first developed
50 years ago when medical student, Bernard Eskin, noticed
iodine-supplemented rats were not getting breast disease. Subsequently,
scientists deliberately gave two sets of rats breast cancer-causing
chemicals. The rats supplementing with iodine did not get breast disease
until iodine was withdrawn from their feed. These rat studies were
noteworthy because the progression of breast disease in rats parallels
the progression in humans.
Breast cancer appears to be a kind of degenerative disease of the
breast which takes many years to develop, either from fibrocystic
disease, or from a few abnormal cells progressing to in situ tumors,
then progressing to full-blown invasive cancer.
Next, scientists looked at the population which gets the least breast
cancer, the Japanese, who consume the most iodine, mostly from sea
vegetables. Japanese women living closer to the sea had even lower
rates. Next, Ghent and Eskin began looking at iodine and human breast
disease in the 1990s.
<>Amazons and Iodine <>
Two and a half years ago, I attended an ACAM medical conference and
learned about the first stirrings of iodine for breast disease. I was
completely confused. It couldn't be "that simple." Some of you may
remember. I came home and Googled "iodine + breast" and came up with
three dinky hits. But when I did a search in the National Library of
Medicine Database, I found dozens of studies. I reported this to the
Amazons and Sally and I began digging, reading, emailing and phoning
researchers trying to learn more. <>
Question: Could iodine deficiency be an underlying cause of breast cancer?
Next, I met Jorge Flechas, MD, at a cancer conference (thanks to the
Amazons and Ann Fonfa's support) and found out about the doctors who
were toiling away at the iodine connection: Guy Abraham, MD, David
Brownstein, MD, and Dr. Flechas.
Dr. Abraham had rechecked some old peer-review literature. He
also uncovered revolutionary information on how bromide replaced
iodine in flour (bromide increases iodine deficiency) in the 1970s. He
pointed out that breast cancer rates increased from 1 in 23 to 1 in 8
since then. Dr. Abraham is the undisputed father of the Iodine
Movement. He is a scholar of the highest order, but more importantly, he
is creative and fearless in his thinking. We owe him a huge debt.
<>Several of us already had Lugol's iodine in our medicine chests from
Hulda Clark's protocol so we began using it more liberally. Every person
with fibrocystic breasts got dramatic results in pain remission. Then
many of us switched to Iodoral and felt noticeable changes, some totally
unrelated to the breasts.

explanation.
Iodine Loading Test Essential
<>We began taking the Iodine Loading Test
<http://breastcancerchoices.org/loading> and found we tested abnormally
low. But finding low scores was good news. If you find a known risk
factor which is FIXABLE you have a better chance of survival!
But from the most recent information, we learned that high or normal
scores in the presence of known thyroid or breast disease can mean the
iodine isn't getting absorbed. These people may have an absorption
defect which can be fixed.
We started Breast Cancer Choices Iodine Investigation Project
<http://breastcancerchoices.org/IodineInvestigation.html> to look at our
iodine levels-- and follow ourselves to see if we'd experience less
recurrence on this non-toxic therapy. This is a patient-initiated
project because we don't have the luxury of waiting. Even if the FDA
approves the upcoming clinical trial at the university, IT WILL BE 15
YEARS BEFORE IODINE AS AN ADJUVANT THERAPY gets mainstreamed. .
It doesn't matter how long you've been taking Iodine Therapy, every
woman needs to take the Iodine Loading test. In the future a simpler
form of the iodine test will be used as a "marker," or test for breast
cancer.
New members, please contact me about getting this test. I will talk you
through the directions if they sound confusing.
I discovered at the Iodine Conference that we are making history. People
want to know what we're doing. Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
