Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute, Columbia University, was
interviewed on the CBC this morning. He made the point that the amounts higher
ranking employees and bosses of investment banks have been taking home in pay
and bonuses during the past few years has greatly exceeded rich world givings
to the poor of Africa and the poor world in general. What he didn't recognize
that the financial types are having a rough time too. An article in the
business section of today's Globe and Mail has those in Britain losing their
luxury country mansions, killing themselves by jumping in front of trains,
murdering their wives and kids and doing all kinds of things that suggest they
may feel themselves to be worse off than poor Africans. For the story see:
