I am pleased to see an article in this month's American Scientist discussing the viability of applying systems engineering principles to the management of the economy. I was also somewhat surprised to find how many eople have proposed this over the years. The article starts with a pre-electronic-age analogue computer built with tubes of coloured water, intended to demonstrate the application of systems engineered controls on the flow of goods and money. -Pete
