Not really an exception, Steve.

The “voluntary simplicity adherents” simply have other desires. I wonder if no 
matter how ascetic they become they feel they have done enough?

And perhaps their behavior illustrates well the second assumption.

I agree with Harry if the statement is meant to be general or statistical. 
There are usually exceptions to 'the rule'; and voluntary simplicity adherents 
are such an example here.

Man seeks to satisfy his desires with the least exertion.”
