Interesting article... What is most surprising about the population issue is that one of the (very few) things that have been widely and quantitatively established along with qualitatively significant explanations is that the fastest non-authoritarian way to population control is with an educated female population. The correlation is clear and significant and seems to be universal.
Anecdotally, in Bangladesh the people I met who were my contemporaries all came from families with 6 or more children... They in turn had 3-4 and their children were now having 2 children and even these were coming later in life. The question is why the various folks with the various difficulties with the various other approaches to population control can't get together on programs to improve women's education.
