I'm sure we could have a world filled with saintly billionaires and not that
much would be different (we of course, would all have wall to wall sinecures
but that's another issue...

It's not the personalities of the billionaires or whoever but rather the
systems that give them inordinate power vs. the power of ordinary citizens
(or the collective masses); that gives them tax advantages to allow for the
amassing of unconscionable amounts of wealth; that allows for political
systems/decisions to be bought and sold on the market place...

(Glad to hear that your snearing attitudes have a provenance Chris and I
should have remembered... I had the same feelings about Veblen when I read
him 35 or so years ago as I have to your current raptor theory of history.

Wouldn't it be long past due time now for the billionaires "to bring forward
all their best qualities to meet the challenges ahead", such as seriously
investing in green tech (and spreading the existing green tech instead of
pushing SUVs, coal powerplants and most-polluting sweatshops), instead of
further ripping off the world so that there's "no money" to develop green
tech even in those economies who were best in that branch?

But no, the "expert" here who admits he doesn't have a better scenario, at
least is dead sure that billionaires are not to blame for anything. (No
wonder he doesn't have a better scenario.)
